Starter Boards

Starter boards offer a basic set of features useful for undergraduate laboratory exercises.

Board Description
Basys ($59) This is an ideal circuit design platform for anyone who wants to learn about FPGAs and digital circuit design. It combines the advanced features of the Xilinx Spartan-3E FPGA with straight- forward power supply and I/O circuits, making it the perfect platform for introductory designs ranging from simple logic circuits to complex digital systems. The four on-board 6-pin connectors can accommodate any of the Digilent low-cost "PMOD" accessory circuits, making it easy to add A/D and D/A converters, motors, sensors, and a variety of other devices and circuits.
Nexys-2 ($99) This is a powerful digital system design platform built around a Xilinx Spartan 3E FPGA. With 16Mbytes of fast SDRAM and 16Mbytes of Flash ROM, the Nexys-2 is ideally suited to embedded processors like the Xilinx 32-bit RISC Microblaze™. The on-board high-speed USB2 port, together with a collection of I/O devices, data ports, and expansion connectors, allow a wide range of designs to be completed without the need for any additional components.
Spartan-3E FPGA Starter Kit ($149)

This is a complete development board solution giving designers instant access to the capabilities of the Spartan-3E family. Complete kit includes board, power supply and USB cable. Designers can take advantage of EDK's Base System Builder to quickly architect a system using various board features.

graduate laboratory exercises.

Board Description
Virtex-II Pro Development System ($299 academic) This has been designed specially for education in collaboration with leading academics from all over the world. Its many innovative features provide support for nearly all aspects of the digital engineering curriculum from undergraduate to graduate courses and projects, as well as research. Designers can take advantage of EDK's Base System Builder to quickly architect a system using various board features.
