Install - How do I change my TEMP or TMP environment variable?

Keywords: ISE, env, var, c:\, windows

The Windows ISE Installer uses the default directory "C:\TEMP". I want the Installer to use a directory on another drive, and I have enough free space on the drive for this to be feasible. How can I make this change?

The Windows ISE Installer uses your operating system's TEMP environment variable to determine where to unpack the installation files. The TEMP environment variable typically defaults to C:\temp.

You can check this by opening a DOS window and typing "echo %TEMP%." This reports the path to the TEMP directory. The hard drive on which the TEMP directory resides must have at least 200 MB of free disk space for an OS using the FAT32 or NTFS file system. An OS using older FAT file systems might need 400 MB of free space.

Refer to your user manual to determine which operating systems are supported for the software version you are installing. To change the location of your TEMP directory to another drive, follow these steps:

Windows 2000/XP
1. Select Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
2. Select System -> Advanced -> Environment Variables.
3. Edit the variable to reflect your new drive.
